13 killed, 51 hurt in shootings across Chicago over Labor Day weekend

CHICAGO -- Thirteen people were killed across the city over the Labor Day holiday weekend.
The Chicago Tribune reports another 51 people were injured in shootings since 9 p.m. Friday.
Most of the violence occurred in the last 24 hours.
The most recent shooting killed two people and injured three others in the city's Lawndale neighborhood. The five young men were standing on the sidewalk in the 2700 block of West Lexington Avenue when someone in a minivan opened fire towards them.
Two 22-year-old men were pronounced dead at area hospitals after being shot in the chest. The other victims, ages 16, 17 and 20, remain hospitalized in serious and critical condition. No arrests have been made in this shooting.
Another shooting in Ogden Park left two people dead as more than 100 people celebrated the Labor Day holiday. A 47-year-old man was shot in the chest while walking his dog, and a 24-year-old man was also shot in the chest as he took off running after hearing the gun shots. Both victims later died at area hospitals. No word on any arrests in this shooting.
In another shooting, a pregnant woman and her boyfriend have been hospitalized after they were wounded in a shooting on the South Side. 23-year-old Crystal Myer and 27-year-old Albert Moore were shot near 53rdand Sangamon around 3:30 p.m. Monday in the city’s Back of the Yard neighborhood. Crystal did deliver a nearly full-term baby boy at an area hospital, but remains in critical condition.
Police say the surge in violence at the end of the weekend is from retaliatory acts after a weekend of parties and tense encounters.
